Recurring seizures-even on meds-is there hope?

Three years ago at 49, my father had an onset of unexplained grand-mal seizures starting at 1 every six months, and now recently every 2 months. Complete physicals=healthy, CAT scans=clean, EEGs=fine, complete heart profiles=good. Recently, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer as well, which was "completely" removed via surgery. My father has been on several types of anti-seizure meds, and when one fails, Dr.s increase to max. dose, and then switch to different meds. Could there be some link between the cancer and the unexplained seizures? Would it be a wise idea to see and endochrinologist to approach the chemical side of what's happening in his body? And what other forms of treatment are available to that he does not have to be "drugged" all the time, only to continue to suffer the seizures?
